If you need a hot Thanksgiving meal or some company this week, Souls Harbour Rescue Mission is setting the table Friday.
The charity is serving free Thanksgiving dinners on Friday, Oct. 9. No need to call ahead. Just show up and ask for the manager, the mission says in its media advisory.
Here’s where to go in HRM:
- Halifax: 5568 Cunard St., noon to 3 p.m.
- Dartmouth: 26 Courtney Rd., noon to 2 p.m.
- Lower Sackville: 222 Sackville Dr., noon to 2 p.m.
The Halifax dinner is on Friday this year. The mission’s first advisory said Monday, and it sent a correction a few minutes later.
Dinners are also served from noon to 2 p.m. Friday in Bridgewater, Truro, Amherst, Sydney Mines, New Waterford and Yarmouth.
The mission plans to serve 2,000 meals this year.
“This Thanksgiving, we’re serving 2,000 meals, an increase of more than 66% over last year, while the rising cost of groceries puts added pressure on families,” said Michelle Porter, the mission’s chief executive officer.
All are welcome, the mission says: men, women and children, for anyone “in need of food or friends.”
Friday at noon, no reservation, no questions. If you’d rather help, the mission’s website takes donations for its Thanksgiving meals.
