If a property tax bill from HRM landed in your mailbox last month, it’s due in just over three weeks.
The municipality sends its second and final tax bill in September, and it’s due on the last working day of October, according to HRM. This year that’s Friday, Oct. 30.
HRM charges interest every day on unpaid taxes, at a rate of 15% a year, the city says.
From April 2020 to April 2023, that rate was 10%.
HRM splits property tax into two bills. The first, the interim bill, goes out in March and is due on the last working day of April. The final bill covers the rest of the year.
HRM explains each line of the bill on its tax bill page.
Mark Friday, Oct. 30. A day late costs interest, and the meter runs every day after that.
