Frenchy’s, the Maritime thrift chain people dig through for bargains, now has its own musical, and Dartmouth audiences are already snapping up seats. Eastern Front Theatre said in a release this week that tickets for Frenchy’s: The Thrift Musical are more than 50 per cent sold ahead of the first show on Oct. 16.
The show runs Oct. 16 to Nov. 1 at the Alderney Landing Theatre, 2 Ochterloney St. Tickets are pay-what-you-can at $35, $45 or $55, and seating is general admission, so nobody gets a reserved seat. It runs about two and a half hours with an intermission. The theatre notes some mature content and flickering lights. You can book online or through the box office at 902-466-2769.
The musical, by playwright David Craig and composer John Roby, follows three generations of an East Coast family searching the aisles for new lives and new wardrobes. According to the release, things go sideways when they get trapped inside the store overnight and their new looks run into old family expectations.

Somewhere in the middle β and that's okay.
The Dartmouth run follows a summer premiere at Ship’s Company Theatre in Parrsboro, which co-produced the show. That run, July 8 to 26, is listed as sold out, and Ship’s Company suggested it for ages 10 and up. Eastern Front says demand was high enough that matinees were added before opening night.
The idea started small. Eastern Front says a work-in-progress reading at its 2023 STAGES Theatre Festival sold out in days, a first for the festival. Patricia Vanstone directs the full production, and the cast is Martha Irving, Julie Martell, MΓ©lanie Leblanc and Mara Teare.
“Folks love Frenchy’s!” said Kat McCormack, Eastern Front’s artistic director.
Eastern Front, founded in 1993, is the theatre company in residence at Alderney Landing. The last show is Sunday, Nov. 1.
