Offender-to-Offender Assault Occurred in Custody

An offender at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility has been admitted to hospital and is in critical condition.

The injuries happened at about 9:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 11, when the offender fell down stairs in a living unit during an altercation with another offender.

Onsite health-care professionals responded immediately. Emergency Health Care Services was notified and the offender was transported and admitted to hospital.

The offender is remanded and is also serving a custodial sentence.

The incident was reported to Halifax Regional Police and is being investigated by Correctional Services staff.
