Halifax Regional Police is launching a new on-line system to encourage citizens to report not in-progess crimes, allowing police to more accurately identify trends and deploy resources appropriately.
The On-line Reporting System is a convenient, simple way to report fraud, stolen/lost property, and not-in-progress theft and property damage crimes.
To access the system, visit www.halifax.ca/police/NonDispatch, select the type of report you wish to make, fill in a simple form and hit submit. You will be provided with an incident number and/or information by telephone or email within 24-hours of submitting your report.
Using the system means you don’t have to wait for a call taker to answer your call. You can submit a report at your convenience in the privacy of your home or business and have the option of printing or saving a copy of your report. You may also use the system to add information to an incident report or leave a message for an officer.
A valid email address is required to use the system and only the individual involved in the incident, owner or authorized agent can file a report. At this time, the system is intended for residents living within Halifax Regional Police jurisdiction – Halifax, Dartmouth, Bedford and the communities extending from Bedford to the Sambro Loop.
The On-line Reporting system is for non-dispatchable incidents only. You should call 9-1-1 in the event of an emergency, or 490-5020 for incidents that require a police officer to respond, such as missing persons, parking and noise complaints, and break and enters where it’s obvious the culprit is no longer present.
Anonymous tips can be sent to Crime Stoppers by calling toll-free 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submitting a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca or texting a tip – Tip 202 + your message to 274637.
