Red Hot In the City of Halifax

Red Hot In the City of Halifax

Recently I had the opportunity to attend the “Red Hot In The City” event for its third annual Heart and Stroke fund raiser. Red Hot In The City is an event designed to create awareness for woman about the importance of taking care of your heart. With a full line up of fashion shows, boutique displays and a heart smart topic, both my worlds of health and fashion collided in a the most fabulous way.

You might be surprised to know that Heart Disease and Stroke is the number one killer of women, even more then all cancers combined. Initially thought to be a “mans disease” we are quickly learning that this is in fact not the case. More and more woman are being affected by heart disease and stroke, but are not recognizing the symptoms.

Frida is located at Bishop’s Landing on Lower Water Street. The boutique features collections both by local and international designers. With eclectic taste, it is the exceptional craftsmanship that separates this boutique from the rest. I was gushing over these wrap bracelets, especially the one of the left!

I think this was my favorite very simple, but sophisticated

Did you know? Woman are less likely to believe they are actually having a heart attack or stroke. We need to be sure woman are educated and mindful of the symptoms and signs of a heart attack and stroke. The most important thing is we need to be mindful of the preventative methods as well;  such as: reducing stress, eating a balanced diet, and exercising.

Woman in my experience, are very selfless, and have been taught to be so, and more often than not they do not put themselves first. I’m sure the same could be true about the woman in your life as well, but the thing we need to remember is that if we are not good to ourselves, and we’re no longer here, than we aren’t any good for anyone: are we?

All is not lost my lovelies, we can start taking care of ourselves by making small incremental heart healthy lifestyle changes, you’ll add more years to your life and more life to those years. Did you know? we can reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke by as much as 80 per cent just by making lifestyle changes? I think we owe it to ourselves and the people in our lives to take this initiative.

I really had a lot of fun at the Red Hot in The City Event, and I met some pretty amazing women at the event;  I would do it all again in a heart beat.

Check out Friday’s Fashion post to see the outfit I chose for the event.
