Dear Friends:
Hope you had a terrific long weekend – wasn’t that weather perfect? I wanted to bring a few events this week to your attention:
Tuesday, May 22
“Under Our Skin” Lyme Disease Documentary
Bedford Public Library, Wardour Drive, Bedford
7 p.m.
Tonight, the Bedford Residents Association is presenting “Under Our Skin”, an award-winning documentary about Lyme Disease produced in the United States.
I met this morning with Dr. Robert Strang, the Chief Medical Officer for NS, who shared with me the results of a new report on Lyme Disease Epidemiology and Surveillance here in the province. I’ll give a brief overview of this report, which will be posted online later this week.
Tuesday May 22
Special Meeting
Greater Hammonds Plains Communities Association
Glen Arbour Clubhouse – main floor
7 p.m.
This meeting will deal with traffic and safety issues along Hammonds Plains Road.
Wednesday, May 23
School Boundaries Reconsideration – Bedford South School
Halifax Regional School Board Meeting
HRSB Offices
33 Spectacle Lake Drive, Dartmouth
On Wednesday night, the Board will reconsider this motion:
It was moved and seconded (Poole/Brine) that the Board approve the recommendation from Senior Staff that students in grades 7 – 9 attending Bedford South School and the students of Bedford Junior High school be redirected to the current Charles P. Allen building when the new high school now under construction in [sic] completed.
As I have indicated publicly, I continue to be concerned about the lack of notice to residents from HRSB about decisions that will affect their lives. In this case, there were no phone calls or notices sent home about the reconsideration motion.
Some have received e-mails, but parents have told me they didn’t know they have to give advance notice to the board if they wish to speak to the motion. Please note that you can do this by contacting:
Selena Henderson, Corporate Secretary
Phone: (902) 464-2000 ext. 2324
E-Mail: shenderson@hrsb.ns.ca
Also please note that the board usually only allows two representations on an issue, and those slots have been filled already. However, the board can decide to allow additional speakers (and they’re usually pretty good about doing that). You can find the rules for speaking at the board here:
