Happy first day of summer! Kick it off with some of these fun events and acitivites around the city this weekend. 1. The Multicultural Festival is back at the Halifax Seaport with a brand new look and feel for 2013! They have three days full of performances on our mainstage that will be fun for the whole family, showcasing music, costume and dance from various cultures.
This year, children’s activities are offered in a Mongolian-style yurt. This fun space will hosts a number of arts, crafts and educational workshops and a variety of children’s entertainers including Mimi the Mermaid; puppeteer Thadius Hatte, Eddie – the environmental superhero, the Wilderbeats, and youth workshop by Don Amero. 2. FREE at Alderney Landing. Sam Evans, age 10, pitched the fine folks at The Awesome Foundation of Halifax and was awarded $1000 to buy Lego to share with the entire city!!! When it’s done, Sam is donating all of the Lego to the Halifax Public Libraries, Discovery Centre, Boys & Girls Clubs and the IWK Children’s Hospital. Bring your creativity, your kids, your grandparents and join them for FREE to play with LEGO! 3. Head to Gorsebrook field on Sunday for the Have a Heart run! It’s part of the Youth Running Series and the Maritime Heart Centre has generously donated 5 bicycles as prizes. It’s a great run for kids of all ages. 4. Every Sunday between June 16th and September 8th, the Public Gardens will host its annual Summer Concert Series. All concerts will take place at the Bandstand from 2-4pm. Stop by and enjoy the flowers, the music, and perhaps even some dancing or an ice cream. This Sunday is The Graham Bowser Band! 5. YoYo JAM YoYo Demonstrator extraordinaire Anthony Marzetti will be at the Discovery Centre from 11 AM to 4 PM on Saturday to perform a YoYo trick spectacular. The event is free with admission, so be sure to stop by and join in with Anthony to create quick and cool yoyo tricks to amaze your friends with!
