This weekend, RCMP and all police services in Nova Scotia took part in Operation Impact, an initiative designed to increase public compliance with safe driving measures and ultimately to save lives.

The RCMP had a strong presence on the roads and focused on high risk driving behaviors (failure to buckle up, impaired driving by drugs or alcohol, aggressive driving and distracted driving).

The following charges were laid:

Seat belts: 106 charges
Impaired Driving: 9 charges
Roadside Screening for Alcohol: 15 – 24 hour/ 7 day / 30 day / 90 day license suspensions
Aggressive Driving: 715 charges
Hand Held Devices: 45 charges

The RCMP is dedicated to improving public safety on our Provincial roadways.

‘Keeping our roads safe is a big job and the police cannot do this without the support and attention of all road users’, says Cst. Kerri Leyte of Nova Scotia RCMP Traffic Services. ‘As evidenced by the charges laid this weekend, too many Nova Scotians are taking unnecessary risks behind the wheel.’
