This year, December 1-7 marks Safe Driving Week, a national campaign to promote safe driving practices and increase public awareness of road safety issues.
During Safe Driving Week, police vehicles will be conducting additional checkpoints across the province to remind motorists that safe driving habits save lives and reduce injuries on our roadways.
‘As police officers we see the devastating impacts of unsafe driving first-hand,’ says Sgt. Alain LeBlanc, Provincial Media Relations Officer for RCMP in Nova Scotia. ‘One of the best ways to make our roads safer is to increase awareness about the dangers associated with unsafe driving practices.’
The focus of the week will be on the four main causal factors of fatal and serious motor vehicle collisions on our road ways -impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding and seatbelt usage.
The RCMP in Nova Scotia and Halifax Regional Police would like to remind drivers of the dangers of mixing alcohol or drugs and driving. Drive sober, buckle up, keep your eyes on the road and always give yourself enough time to reach your destination. When motorists follow safe driving practices, they reduce the risk of death and injury for themselves and others.
