Nova Scotians can share a picture of the province’s past this holiday season with new Christmas cards from the Nova Scotia Archives.

For the first time, the Archives has developed boxed sets of unique Christmas cards featuring photos of colourful Victorian whimsey and traditional black-and-white Nova Scotia winter scenes.

“Nova Scotians know how important their culture and heritage are for our provincial identity,” said Communities, Culture and Heritage Minister Tony Ince. “The Christmas cards are an excellent way to share a scene from our past and to remind people of what it means to be Nova Scotian over the holidays.”

The photos were selected from the archives’ scrapbook and photograph collections. The cards are blank inside and there are 12 cards and envelopes per box.

“I think it’s wonderful. The cards are a way for the archives to once more be out in the community,” said Anne Crossman, past member of the Public Archives’ board of trustees from Centrelea. “The images are so indicative of what the archives are all about, and that is maintaining the links to the past for where we live.”

The boxes, only available for pick-up at the Nova Scotia Archives, are $19 each, tax included.

The project is sponsored by the board of trustees, Public Archives of Nova Scotia, to support and sustain special activities undertaken by the Nova Scotia Archives to expand and promote public access to the province’s documentary heritage.
