HALIFAX, December 30, 2013 – The Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation (NSLC) announced today a list of top-selling Nova Scotia products along with the launch of its 2012-13 integrated annual report. As part of its mandate, the NSLC adopts practices and policies that support a wide range of locally- produced products. The result was a banner year for Nova Scotia products, fueled in part by the success of Nova Scotia wines, which have doubled in sales over the past five years, growing from $4.4 million in 2008 to $9.4 million in 2013.
- Local wines contributed $9,383,749 to NSLC revenues
- Top sellers (750 ml) were Nova 7, Jost Marble Mountain and Lunenburg County Blueberry
- Over 74,000 cases were sold, accounting for 7% of total wine sales
- 147 different Nova Scotia wine articles were offered from 13 local wineries
- If Nova Scotia was a wine country of its own, it would rank 5th in overall NSLC sales, outselling Chile, Argentina and France
- Nova Scotian craft beer sales grew by 13%, accounting for $6.8 million in sales
- One out of every two bottles of craft beer sold is a local product, with Garrison Brewing Company and Propeller Brewery being top performers
- Cider continues to make its mark on the local landscape, with sales growing by 104%
- Top sellers were Stutz, Shipbuilders and Bulwark
