Halifax Regional Police responded to an incident last night where a motorist struck a pedestrian who was walking on a sidewalk in Halifax.

 

At 7 p.m. Patrol Officers responded to a motor vehicle-pedestrian collision near the intersection of Agricola and Cunard Streets after the driver lost control of his SUV while heading northbound on Agricola Street. As the 16-year-old driver realized what was happening, he saw a pedestrian on the sidewalk and sounded his horn to try to alert her. When his vehicle ended up on the sidewalk, it brushed against the 50-year-old woman and caused her to fall backwards and hit her head. The pedestrian was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

 

There is insufficient evidence to support the laying of charges in this incident. Police remind motorists to adjust their speed according to the weather and road conditions and allow extra time and distance for stopping, particularly when the roads are snow-covered.
