On April 13, police began an investigation after receiving information regarding online child pornography. The pornography involved a nude picture of a young child on a social media site.
On August 3 at 7:40 a.m., investigators in the Internet Child Exploitation (ICE) Unit of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division conducted a search of a residence in the 5800 block of West Street and seized a document as well as number of electronic devices for forensic analysis. A man inside the residence was arrested without incident.
Thirty-eight-year-old Darrell James Smith of Halifax appeared in Halifax Provincial Court today to face one count of distribution of child pornography, one count of possession of child pornography and one count of accessing child pornography. He is being held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Halifax Provincial Court again on August 9.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing.
