Acting Conflict of Interest Commissioner Appointed


The province has appointed an acting commissioner to oversee potential conflict of interest matters.

Chief Justice Joseph Kennedy of the Nova Scotia Supreme Court, was appointed Acting Conflict of Interest Commissioner effective today, July 31. He will take on the role in addition to his chief justice duties.

The role of the commissioner is to provide advice and recommendations on possible conflicts of interest involving provincially elected officials and public servants.

Chief Justice Kennedy has been sitting on the Nova Scotia Supreme Court since 1998 and brings over 40 years of experience, skill and expertise to this position.

The appointment follows the retirement of Mr. Nunn in June. Mr. Nunn held the position for almost 21 years.

Under the Conflict of Interest Act, the next commissioner will be appointed by cabinet upon consultation with the leaders of the recognized parties in the House of Assembly and subject to the approval of the house.
