Advance voting opening for 2024 Municipal Election

The Halifax Regional Municipality is reminding residents that the first of two advance voting days for the 2024 Municipal and Conseil scolaire acadien provincial Election will take place on Saturday, Oct. 12. Polls will open at noon and will close at 8 p.m. 

Residents can vote at any advance voting location using an electronic voting kiosk. A full list can be found at halifax.ca/election

Identification is not required to vote. Residents are asked to bring their voter information letter with them, as it contains the unique personal identification number needed to vote. Residents who did not receive their voter information letter will receive their personal identification number at the polling location.

Online and telephone voting also remains open until Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. 

Residents must use the unique personal identification number contained in their voter information letter when voting online or via telephone. For further assistance, can contact the voter helpline at 902-490-VOTE (8683) or toll-free at 1-844-301-8683. 

There will be a second advance voting day on Tuesday, Oct. 15. Residents can also vote in-person on election day – Saturday, Oct. 19. 

Residents will have the opportunity to vote for up to three separate electoral races: 

  • Mayor: Residents can vote for one mayoral candidate. There are 16 mayoral candidates. 
  • Councillor: Residents can vote for one councillor candidate for their electoral district. There are 63 councillor candidates in the municipality’s 16 electoral districts. Residents can find their electoral district here. 
  • Conseil scolaire acadien provincial representative: Eligible residents can vote for two CSAP representatives. Eligible residents must meet the criteria of “Entitled Parent” or an “Entitled Person” as defined in the Education Act. There are four CSAP candidates running for two positions.
