After Years, Federal And Provincial Social Services Ministers To Meet

Release:

For the first time in 10 years, federal, provincial and territorial social services ministers from across Canada will meet on February 4 and 5 in Edmonton, Alberta, to share information, establish priorities and determine a plan to move forward on common goals.

As part of the Government of Canada’s commitment to engage early with provinces and territories, this initial meeting will set the stage for future collaboration on social issues. The Honourable Jean-Yves Duclos, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, will take this opportunity to highlight the Government’s agenda to support Canadian families. He will reaffirm the importance of building positive relationships and exchanging best practices to deliver on real change for Canadians.

The meeting will be co‑chaired by Minister Duclos and the Honourable Irfan Sabir, Alberta Minister of Human Services.

At the meeting, some key issues to be discussed will include child care and early learning opportunities, Indigenous children in care, poverty reduction and social infrastructure.
