(Monday, May 28, 2012) Halifax, NS – Metro Transit will launch a new MetroX express bus route on May 31, providing direct, limited-stop bus service between the Halifax International Stanfield Airport, Fall River, and the downtown core.
“I am pleased to announce on behalf of Council that the highly anticipated MetroX Airport/Fall River service will get underway this week,” said Mayor Kelly. “The new MetroX route will provide a sustainable, affordable, and accessible transportation option for HRM citizens across the Region, in support of a key Regional Plan objective. We’ve been working closely with the airport authority over the past few years to plan and develop this much needed service.”
Beginning on Thursday, May 31, MetroX route 320 Airport/Fall River will travel from downtown Halifax to the Bridge Terminal, along Highway 118 to a new Park & Ride lot in Fall River, through Aerotech Park, with a final stop at the Halifax International Stanfield Airport. Route 320 will provide 30 minute service during weekday peak hours (6:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.), and 60 minute service for off peak hours and on weekends, with an approximate trip time of 40 minutes.
“The new MetroX service will provide an integral connection between downtown Halifax, Fall River, and the airport,” said Metro Transit Director Eddie Robar. “Its introduction will help benefit the large employee base at the airport, as well as other new transit customers. It also expands our premium, limited-stop MetroX service to two routes, with the original Tantallon route launched in 2009.”
The new 90 vehicle capacity Fall River Park & Ride, located off Highway 118 and Perrin Drive, is free of charge to MetroX customers and available for use during MetroX service hours. The Park & Ride lot also features two designated accessible parking spaces and bike racks. Buses used on this route are accessible low floor, featuring 36 seats, limited capacity luggage and bike racks, and air-conditioning for passenger comfort.
