Amherst man faces numerous charges after crash leads to recovery of stolen vehicles, Linden, N.S.

An Amherst man is facing numerous charges after a motor vehicle crash led officers to recover three stolen vehicles and lay impaired driving charges.

On August 24 at 6:30 a.m.

, Cumberland District RCMP responded to a single vehicle collision on Highway 366 in Tignish Bridge. When members attended the scene they found a Chevrolet Silverado that had been driven off the road and into a ditch. The driver, a 30-year-old Amherst man was located in the back of an ambulance and was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle.

Shortly after, Cumberland District RCMP responded to a report of a break and enter to a residence and theft of a motor vehicle from Linden. The suspect gained entrance to the residence and stole the keys to a Chevrolet Silverado. This was the same vehicle involved in the initial collision. While members were investigating this incident, another vehicle, a Ford F-150, was located stuck in a ditch close to the residence in Linden.

An investigation determined that the F-150 was also stolen from a nearby residence in Linden, in a similar manner where the suspect broke into the house and stole the keys to the vehicle. A third stolen vehicle from Amherst was also recovered in the nearby area, a 2006 Honda Civic.

Mark Ryan Matheson of Amherst is facing 15 charges in relation to the above incidents including:

Break and Enter x 2
Theft of Motor Vehicle x 2
Damage to Property x 2
Impaired Driving Operation of a motor vehicle
Possession of Stolen Property x 3
Breach of Conditions x 4

Matheson appeared in Amherst Provincial Court on August 24, 2015 and was held pending his next court appearance on September 9, 2015.
