Andy Irons dies on way back to Hawaii

Pulling into Pipeline 2006

Irons, 3 time world champ, has passed away reportedly due to complications of Dengue fever.  Irons missed his Round 1 and 2 heats at the Rip Curl Search Puerto Rico stop, on the ASP Men’s World Tour Saturday due to the illness.

He was flown to Miami from Puerto Rico where he remained on IV drip for two days.  After which he wanted to get home to see his doctor.  He missed his connecting flight in Dallas then proceeded to check into a hotel to rest for the night.  He was found dead the next morning by hotel staff. Andy was 32.

He leaves behind his pregnant wife, family and thousands of others who share in his passion of surfing.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and family.

We will update any relevant information as is becomes available.
