Animal cruelty charges after death of animal

Daviyaun Michael Nathanyal Talbot, 20, of Dartmouth has been charged with willfully and without lawful excuse to killing, maiming, wounding, poisoning or injuring a cat that is kept for lawful purpose contrary to Section 445(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada along with causing distress to a cat contrary to Section 26(1) of the Animal Protection Act of Nova Scotia.

On September 2, 2021, the Nova Scotia SPCA responded to a complaint that involved a deceased cat at a Halifax residence. SPCA Enforcement Officers transported the cat to the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture’s pathology lab where a necropsy was performed. The Nova Scotia SPCA conducted a thorough investigation which included a search warrant. As a result of the investigation, animal cruelty charges were laid. Talbot is scheduled to appear at Dartmouth Provincial Court on March 18, 2022.
