Annapolis Valley Chamber Works to Increase Tourism

Hikes with spectacular views, whale-watching adventures and award-winning wineries offer plenty of temptation for tourists.

All of those attractions, and many more, are what make the Annapolis Valley a must-see destination, which is why the area’s chamber of commerce is partnering with government to promote the region to visitors.

“With the return of the Yarmouth ferry and renewed marketing efforts in New England, we have a fresh opportunity to attract new visitors,” said Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce president Sue Hayes. “Government has done its part to promote the province, now it’s up to us to capitalize by doing more to tell people about all the things that make the Annapolis Valley a great place to visit.”

The Nova Scotia Tourism Agency is providing $100,000 to help the chamber market the valley region in 2014.

“Tourism is a tremendous economic driver for the valley, so it is important to make investments to stay competitive,” said MLA Keith Irving, on behalf of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism Minister Michel Samson. “I am particularly encouraged by the collaborative approach taken by the Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce on this initiative.”

The chamber’s plans include a radio and television campaign to tell people about the attractions the valley presents. Future plans include developing a smartphone app, wine festival, and enhanced website.
