Antigonish District RCMP have arrested an impaired driver after he fled from police then crashed into another vehicle.
At approximately 8:30 a.m. this morning, a Antigonish RCMP member witnessed a gold coloured Nissan Altima spinning its tires and travelling at a high rate of speed on College St.
in Antigonish. A traffic stop was initiated but as the member exited his police vehicle and approached the car, it sped away. The member observed the direction of the vehicle and radioed immediately for assistance.
The vehicle was located a short time later on Brookland St. where it had been involved in a head on collision with a red Hyundai. The driver of the Nissan had fled the scene but was located and arrested Braemore Ave. The driver provided samples of his breath showing alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
A 27-year-old male from Merland is facing the following charges:
– Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm
– Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
– Flight from Police in a Motor Vehicle
– Fail to Remain at the Scene of an Accident
The male has been released from police custody and will appear in Antigonish Provincial Court on December 16, 2016.
The two occupants of the red Hyundai, an 83-year-old male and a 32-year-old female from Antigonish were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
