Antigonish RCMP investigate fatal crash, Monastery, N.S.

Antigonish RCMP are investigating a multiple vehicle crash that occurred earlier this date. At 11:00 a.m., RCMP, Emergency Health Services and Tracadie Fire Department responded to a multiple vehicle crash involving two automobiles and a transport truck on Highway #104, near Exit 37 Monastery.

At 11:00 a.m., RCMP, Emergency Health Services and Tracadie Fire Department responded to a multiple vehicle crash involving two automobiles and a transport truck on Highway #104, near Exit 37 Monastery.

A 48-year-old Sydney man was airlifted to the QE2 and died later that evening in hospital. He was the only occupant of one automobile. The second automobile had two female occupants who were also transported to hospital with what appeared to be non life threatening injuries. The sole occupant of the transport truck also incurred non life threatening injuries.

The preliminary investigation has shown the transport truck and an automobile were west bound while the vehicle operated by the deceased was eastbound. Road surface was snow packed with white out conditions present at the time.

With the assistance of Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal, Highway #104 traffic was diverted between exits 37 and 38 to Hwy #4 from 11:00 am to 9:30 pm. The investigation into the cause of the collision is continuing.

The name of the driver is not being released at this time.
