Antigonish County RCMP are investigating a fire that occurred earlier this afternoon.

At approximately 1 p.m. today, RCMP, Antigonish Fire Department, Antigonish County and the Four Valley’s Fire Departments responded to the scene of a major structure fire at the Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal building on Post Road.

The structure was a total loss. An adjacent home also caught fire sustaining damage to the roof and attic area. No one was injured in either occurrence.

The Fire Marshal’s Office will be assisting with the investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Nearby schools were not vulnerable and students were kept in school and dismissed at the normal time. However police attended at dismissal time to conduct traffic control and to ensure students’ safety. The investigation is continuing.
