The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that applications are now available for the Low Income Transit Pass Program. Qualified residents can submit their application, beginning Monday, May 8, 2017, to receive transit passes at 50 per cent off the regular rate for the upcoming year.
The Low Income Transit Pass Program was launched by Halifax Transit as a pilot in September 2016 and provided subsidized transit passes for 500 residents. The program, which is now annual, will accept up to 1,000 qualified applicants who will be able to purchase a subsidized monthly pass from July 2017 to June 2018.
Pilot program participants who would like to continue accessing the program must re-apply annually for the program.
To qualify you must be a resident of the municipality and have a combined gross household income of less than $33,000, and not currently receive a transportation subsidy under the Nova Scotia Employment Support and Income Assistance Program.
Residents can apply in person at any municipal service contact center, by email or regular mail. For more information on the Low Income Transit Pass Pilot Program, or to access the application form, please visit www.halifax.ca/transit/LowIncomePass.php or contact 311.
