Applications Available for 2018 Nova Scotia Antlerless Deer Draw

Starting today, Aug. 1, Nova Scotia hunters can apply for an antlerless deer hunting stamp for the 2018 hunting season. There are 5,000 antlerless deer hunting stamps available this year.

Offering stamps through a limited-entry draw is a major part of sustainably managing the deer population. Valuable information from harvest data submitted by hunters, deer biological samples and nuisance deer complaints are gathered each year to determine the number of stamps that will be issued in each zone.

The 2018 stamps are available for zones 101, 103, 104, 106, 108, and 110. There are no antlerless stamps needed for zones 102, 105, 107, or 109, as these zones are open to harvesting deer of either sex. No antlerless deer can be hunted in zones 111 and 112 this year. An antlerless deer hunting stamp does not increase your bag limit. It allows you to harvest either one antlerless deer or antlered deer under the deer hunting licence you hold.

The application fee is $8.04, plus HST. Qualified hunters can apply online, using a credit card at, https://novascotia.ca/natr/draws/deerdraw/ . They can also apply by calling 1-900-565-3337 to have the fee billed directly to their landline phone.

Applications will be accepted until Friday, Aug. 31, at midnight and the draw will take place on Saturday, Sept. 1. Winners will be notified by mail.

Applicants may check their draw results online at, https://novascotia.ca/natr/draws/deerdraw/ , beginning at noon on Sunday, Sept. 2.

An antlerless deer hunting stamp becomes valid when applied to a valid deer hunting licence and gives the hunter permission to hunt antlerless deer in the deer management zone specified on the stamp.
