Are you ‘emergency ready’? Emergency Preparedness Week 2019

Emergency Preparedness Week begins Sunday, May 5, and Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency’s (HRFE’s) Emergency Management Division is urging you to become ‘emergency ready’.

The Emergency Management Division is focused on ensuring the safety and security of residents, their properties, and the environment by providing a prompt and coordinated response to an emergency.

Residents play a big role in ensuring their own safety as well.

Being ‘emergency ready’ requires examination of three key areas:

  • Know the risks
  • Make a plan
  • Get a kit

You should be prepared to be self-sufficient in your home for 72 hours (or seven to 10 days in a health emergency).

HRFE’s Emergency Management Division is running a contest to bring better awareness and thought to being ‘emergency ready’.

Up for grabs are 20 emergency kits (approx. retail value $30). To participate in the contest, take our emergency preparedness quiz. All entrants who answer the questions correctly will be eligible for the draw.

For more information on being prepared for an emergency, check out the HRFEEmergency Management web page.

Residents are encouraged to follow the@hfxgov Twitter account for regular updates and information during an emergency.
