Arrest Made After Highfield Needs Robbery

At approximately 11:27 p.m. on March 21, officers responded to a report of a robbery at Needs Convenience Store located at 100 Highfield Park Drive. Two men entered the store and directed the lone customer to lie on the floor and then they approached the counter and directed the employee behind the counter to fill a garbage bag with cigarettes and an undisclosed amount of money. One male produced a firearm and the other male produced a knife. Neither the customer nor the employee were injured.

One suspect was described as a male, heavy set, wearing gloves, a balaclava over his head and a dark jacket. This suspect brandished the firearm.

The second suspect is described as a male, skinny build, wearing gloves, a balaclava over his head, white or light grey colored pants. This suspect brandished the knife.

Both suspects fled the store on foot and ran in a westerly direction.

The police service dog was deployed – suspects were not located but evidence related to the robbery was recovered.

Through the course of the investigation the suspect believed to have the firearm was identified. On March 25th, 2020 Officers assigned to the General Investigation Section of the Integrated Criminal Investigation Division arrested a 43-year-old Dartmouth man. He will be facing the following charges, Robbery contrary to section Sec 343(d) of the Criminal Code and Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose contrary to section 88 (1) of the Criminal Code. The firearm was not recovered.

He will appear in Provincial Court in Dartmouth on March 26th, 2020.
