Association for Safer Cape Breton Communities Receives Senior Safety Grant

Funding was announced today, Feb. 3, to support safety and security for seniors and create opportunities so they can become more engaged in their communities.

Cape Breton Centre MLA David Wilton, on behalf of Leo Glavine, Minister of Seniors, announced a Senior Safety Grant for the Association for Safer Cape Breton Communities.

“Older adults live unique and vibrant lives,” said Mr. Wilton. “They can benefit from programs and services that are tailored to meet their needs rather than a one-size fits all approach.”

The association is receiving a $20,000 grant to support education sessions, encourage independence and promote crime prevention.

“Positive aging encompasses a holistic approach to life – safety, social involvement, physical, financial and emotional wellness, independence and a sense of community,” said Wilma Menzies, coordinator, Senior Safety Program. “We offer education, navigation and support to lessen fears and empower seniors.”

Support from government helps improve accessibility for seniors to inclusive programs.
