STATEMENT FROM TEAM MANITOBA
Team Manitoba regretfully advises that one of its athletes is not able to compete in the 2011 Canada Winter Games and has been hospitalized due to a non-sport related illness.
As this is a personal medical matter Team Manitoba is not releasing the name of the athlete at the request of the family.
Team Manitoba would like to express its gratitude to the medical staff of the 2011 Halifax Host Society for ensuring that the athlete is receiving the highest level of care and comfort possible.
HOST SOCIETY STATEMENT
We can confirm that Team Manitoba is dealing with an illness of an athlete. As per the family's request, we will not be releasing the athlete's name.
The athlete is hospitalized – it's a non-sport related illness. We've been advised by the Medical Officer of Health and other officials at Capital Health that this is not a risk to any other athletes, teammates, or the general public.
So from this point on, we will remain in contact with Team Manitoba. We have provided care and comfort to the family and support to Team Manitoba in the form of counselling.
