Atlantic Superstore and all Loblaw-affiliated grocery outlets across Nova Scotia are celebrating a successful Holiday Food Drive, with a total of $171,300 and over 12,000 kg of non-perishable food items donated to Feed Nova Scotia and local food banks across the province. This cash amount exceeds the 2017 Holiday Food Drive provincial total by over $54,000. For the first time ever, more than $2 million in cash was donated nationally during the food drive at Loblaw stores across Canada.
The Holiday Food Drive ran from December 1 to 24 at all Atlantic Superstore, Your Independent Grocer and NoFrills locations across the province. Donations of food and funds were collected for Feed Nova Scotia and approximately 35 local food banks in all areas of Nova Scotia.
“Each year, 41,000 Nova Scotians access a food bank for support – almost a third of themof them are children,” said Nick Jennery, executive director, Feed Nova Scotia. “The Atlantic Superstore Holiday Food Drive helps to keep the shelves of food banks across the province stocked with healthy choices allwinter long, making a huge impact on our neighbours who rely on the support of a local food bank.”
“Atlantic Superstore is proud to have a long history of supporting those in need here in Nova Scotia through colleague-led initiatives such as the Holiday Food Drive,” said Mark Boudreau, Director of Corporate Affairs, Loblaw Atlantic. “Year after year our customers and colleagues donate food items or add a few dollars to their grocery bill to ensure that people in their own communities have enough to eat. We want to thank Nova Scotians for their generosity during the record-breaking 2018 Holiday Food Drive – they have really gone above and beyond this year.”
