Attempted murder charges after weekend stabbing

RCMP release:

RCMP/HRP Integrated Criminal Investigation Division has charged a man with Attempt to Commit Murder following a serious incident in Lake Echo.

On November 25, at approximately 2 p.m., Halifax District RCMP and EHS responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence on Bumpy Lane in Lake Echo. RCMP officers learned that a woman had attended the home, to check on a woman, who is known to her. Once inside, she found the woman suffering from life threatening injuries and called for help. The victim was transported to hospital by EHS.

During the initial investigation, investigators learned that the victim had been stabbed by a man known to her, the evening prior.

Yesterday, at approximately 2:45 p.m., a 57-year-old Dartmouth man turned himself in to police at the Halifax Regional Police Headquarters located in Halifax.

Oscar Allison Purdy, 57, has been charged with:

  • Attempted Murder
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Uttering Threat
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose
  • Possession of a Weapon Contrary to Order

Purdy was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court today.

The investigation is ongoing and being led by the General Investigation Section of the Integrated RCMP/HRP Criminal Investigation Division.
