August Traffic Unit update

In their continued endeavour to address traffic safety issues and educate citizens on the rules of the road, the HRP/RCMP Integrated Traffic Unit is continuing its focus on construction zones and speed enforcement throughout the month of August.

As of July 10, 2008, legislative amendments came into effect targeting people who speed in work zones. Fines are doubled and demerit points are now assigned to a driver’s record for speeding in work zones. The fines for an infraction are based on the driver’s speed and range from $337 to $682 for a first offence.

The Unit’s focus in July was speed enforcement. A total of 1,316 tickets were issued across HRM during the month, including 472 for speeding infractions.
