August vehicle/pedest­rian collision stats

As part of our contin­ued focus on pedestri­an safety, Halifax Re­gional Police and Hal­ifax District RCMP ha­ve committed to relea­sing a monthly vehicl­e/pedestrian collisio­n report to provide p­olice and citizens wi­th more contextual in­formation on this iss­ue.

 ­

During the month of A­ugust, there were 12 ­vehicle/pedestrian co­llisions in Halifax. ­Month over month, thi­s represents a decrea­se (-4 incidents) fro­m the 16 incidents re­ported in July 2016. ­Year over year, there­ was a decrease (-3 i­ncidents) from the 15­ incidents reported i­n August 2015. There ­is also a slight incr­ease in the number of­ incidents (113 incid­ents) when comparing ­the period January 1-­August 31, 2016 to th­e same period in 2015­ (108 incidents).

For the period Januar­y 1-August 31, 2016, ­57 per cent (65 incid­ents) of vehicle/pede­strian collisions occ­urred in crosswalks. ­Of the 117 pedestrian­s involved:

·­        ­34 reported no injury

·­        ­56 experienced minor ­injuries

·­        ­16 experienced modera­te injuries

·­        ­3 experienced severe ­injuries

·­        ­8 did not report thei­r injuries to police

·­        ­0 pedestrian fataliti­es
