To most, this would be a deterrent for a photo shoot, but for pros Alexa and Luke of North By North Photography they were not only ready and willing to conquer it all but happy to do so. With a trunk stocked full of camera gear, props, and hot coffee and Timbits in hand we left the city behind us and crept our way into a beautiful oceanside cottage off just Lawrencetown Beach. As both a fan and friend of Alexa and Luke we are always trying to escape our deadlines and due dates of living the freelance hustle to do some just-for-fun shoots. Finally, the stars aligned (haha bad pun) and we were able to sync our schedules and just do what we love and get creative. I love working with Alexa and Luke because I know that no matter what the obstacles we will ultimately create magic together. They are do dedicated to what they do that nothing they touch is short of perfection. Also, I […] More

Recently I had the absolute pleasure of catching up with Ana Almeida from CTV Live at 5 to chat about all the red carpet hits and misses from Oscars Sunday night. Who were your favs? I think a lot of stars pulled out all the stops, and it was actually REALLY tricky to pick the misses because I felt like everyone looked polished and beautiful. Some of my favorites who didn’t make this list were Luciana Barroso in her quicksilver bodice hugging gown that was both interesting a Some of my favorites who didn’t make this list were: Luciana Barroso in her quicksilver bodice hugging gown that was both interesting a styled so well, Mahershala Ali in an all-black tailored to perfection suit and a cute little polka dot pocket square (I mean he always looks good right?), Karlie Kloss in her white column dress with a one cape sleeve (also loved that necklace), and last but not least, Brie Larson’s sleek and structural black velvet dress which I felt was such a deviation from what we normally see her in. LOVE Well, that concludes the awards season. It’s crazy how fast it’s gone by. It’s so bittersweet we look […] More

While a cottage getaway might not be your first inclination during cooler winter months it was exactly what I needed, and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. When your job can go anywhere you can pretty much never stop doing it. However, there’s something about taking yourself out of your routine, and parking yourself near the ocean that instantly puts you at ease. Suddenly it was as though all the things that stressed me out in the city didn’t matter so much anymore. The ocean is a wonderful distraction. Recently I had the absolute pleasure of spending the night at Oceanstone Seaside Resort in Peggy’s Cove. While we are all plenty familiar with the beautiful lighthouse, and the rugged coastline there’s much more to Peggy’s Cove than Instagram would lead us to believe. About Oceanstone Minutes away from the picturesque Peggy’s Cove, Oceanstone Resort is a gem on the South Shore of Nova Scotia. Located just 40 minutes from Halifax and 45 minutes from the airport, the resort is a premiere location for weddings, corporate events, retreats, or simply just a weekend getaway with friends or loved ones. Consistently recognized nationally for weddings, Oceanstone Resort recently was chosen […] More

Some of the biggest trends to come down the pipe for Spring are, undoubtedly ruffles, oversized button down shirts, trouser socks, and layered fishnets. And it just so happens (totally not a coincidence at all) I’m wearing all three in today’s outfit post. While the weather has been wildly all over the place lately, and since we were hit with not one but 3 snow storms in a row you might be thinking ahead to spring a lot sooner than you planned. Given that we can’t do too much about the weather I thought I’d share some tips for how to incorporate some spring trends now! FEATURED ITEMS: Turtleneck, Cupcakes and Cashmere via Envy Clothing Co. Men’s Linen Shirt, J. Crew Cohen Pants , c/o Aritzia Coat, Winners Shoes, Nine West Shoe Studio Trouser Socks and Hat, Forever 21 Watch, c/o Daniel Wellington Phone Case, c/o Casetify Cue all the romantic and billowy garments, because whether it’s along your collar or dangling on your sleeve ruffles are definitely a huge trend for Spring. And while I’ve had this coat for a number of years, and it’s timeless and almost always my go-to coat when I want to feel dressed up.
Recently I took a little day trip to LaHave Bakery in Bridgewater NS with some local photographers, and it was truly a blast! I decided to shoot a little footage (mind the shakiness I’m still learning) to take you behind the scenes with me. We, of course, made a hundred pit stops along the way to shoot random things in just about any location. It was one of those amazingly foggy days where the sky and the sea were one, and you could see it roll right off the water. We had no fixed agenda but simply explored what we felt like exploring. While it was cold (and wet) I’m not going to lie I had so much fun with this crew that I can’t wait to do it again soon. Featured in this video the wildly talented, Alexa, Linsday, and Kyle. Special shout out to @chillinwithBernie for the images! Happy Friday 🙂 xx Kayla More
