Baddeck RCMP investigate head-on collision, Baddeck, N.S.

Baddeck RCMP is investigating a serious motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 105 last evening.

At approximately 8:10 p.m. last night, Baddeck RCMP, Emergency Health Services and Baddeck Fire Department responded to a two vehicle head-on collision.

The collision, which occurred one km west of the Irving station, involved a Ford Ranger with one male occupant from Baddeck and a Toyota Corolla with two female occupants from Glace Bay. Preliminary investigation revealed that the driver of the Ford Ranger was traveling west in the east bound lane when he struck the oncoming Toyota.

The Jaws of Life were used to extract occupants from both vehicles. Both occupants of the Corolla, aged 54 and 52, were transported to Cape Breton Regional Hospital in Sydney, one with life threatening injuries. The driver of the Ranger was also transported to Victoria County Memorial Hospital in Baddeck with suspected internal injuries, he remains in hospital.

RCMP had the highway shut down for three hours. An RCMP collision analyst was called in to assist with the investigation. The investigation is continuing.
