Barrington RCMP investigates drowning, Upper Clyde, N.S.

Barrington RCMP is investigating the drowning of a 65-year-old man from Shelburne County.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. last evening, RCMP responded to a call about a canoeist who had not returned home in the Happy Valley Rd.

area of Upper Clyde, Nova Scotia.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the 65-year-old man was planning to depart in his canoe shortly after 2 p.m. in Clyde River and was supposed to return home in the early evening. When he did not return, police were called.

Once police arrived, Barrington Ground Search and Rescue (GSAR) and the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) were activated. Through a joint search effort, the man was located in the water shortly after midnight. He was pronounced dead on scene by EHS. Earlier this morning, the canoe was also located.

The investigation is ongoing however foul play is not suspected.
