Barrington Street – Road Closure & Night Construction

Friday, July 3, 2015 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that crews will be working overnight on Barrington Street for the next three weeks, laying new asphalt and improving the connecting sidewalks and other infrastructure.

Starting on Monday, July 6, and continuing until Friday, July 24, Barrington Street will be closed to vehicle traffic on weeknights starting at 9 p.m. to allow crews to pave the street and replace the curbs, gutters, crosswalks and sidewalks between Morris and Blowers streets. Barrington will reopen each morning at 6 a.m.

Crews will accommodate local traffic, including bus and emergency vehicles during the closure and pedestrian access will not be affected; however, there will be limited vehicle access to businesses in the area. Crews will work with businesses to accommodate deliveries outside of daytime business hours.

Crews have been granted an exemption to the municipal noise bylaw, so residents may notice louder than normal construction noise after hours.

This work will take place from Monday to Thursday night only. The street will reopen during the day and there will be no work on Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

The municipality regrets any inconvenience this closure may cause; however, this work is required to improve the look of the neighbourhood and make the surrounding infrastructure safer for all users.
