Bedford Highway (Larry Uteck Boulevard to Fern Avenue) – Weekend Street Closure

Tuesday, June 21, 2016 (Halifax, NS) – The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents and motorists that a section of the Bedford Highway, between Larry Uteck Boulevard and Fern Avenue, will be closed to motor vehicle, cyclist and pedestrian traffic this coming weekend.

The street closure will be in effect beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday, June 25, through until 10 p.m., Sunday, June 26. The work times permitted within the closure period will be 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. on both days.

The street closure is necessary to enable the replacement and extension of underground water and wastewater infrastructure, which cannot efficiently or safely be undertaken without a full closure of this section of the Bedford Highway.

Marked detours will be in place along the following route:

Bedford Highway Inbound from Bedford: Bedford Highway, right onto Hammonds Plains Road, left onto Highway 102, merge off of the highway at exit 2B and turn left on to Larry Uteck Boulevard, proceed to end of Larry Uteck Boulevard, right onto Bedford Highway, and continue.

Bedford Highway Outbound from Halifax: Bedford Highway, left onto Larry Uteck Boulevard, right onto Highway 102, merge off of the highway at exit 3A onto Hammonds Plains Road, proceed to end of Hammonds Plains Road, right onto Bedford Highway, and continue.

Halifax Transit passengers on routes that normally travel the affected portion of the Bedford Highway should expect minor service delays due to required detours. Call the Departures Lines at 902-480-8000 for up-to-date bus departure information for your bus stop during the street closure.

Please note that bus stops on the Bedford Highway between Larry Uteck Boulevard and Southgate Drive will not be serviced for the duration of this street closure. A full list of affected bus stops can be viewed online at www.halifax.ca/transit/ServiceDisruptions.php.

In the event of inclement weather, the street closure and associated work will be postponed to Saturday, July 9, and Sunday, July 10.

The municipality thanks residents in advance for their cooperation, and regrets any inconvenience this street closure may cause.
