Our house is new construction, but it’s built as a “modern day craftsman” house.  While it’s pretty modern, there are lots of little traditional details that I’m trying to highlight and complement. This fireplace had just enough detailing that makes it look traditional {without too much scrolly stuff} but the blonde oak didn’t match at all! I don’t have a picture, but the fireplace insert was black and brass {gasp!}.

I sprayed the brass pieces in heat safe black matte paint. The wood was lightly sanded, primed with 1 coat of spray primer, sprayed in RustOleum “Heirloom White” {creamy ivory}, then sealed with spray poly.  Fireplace was $100 on kijiji, paint was $20. Time spent: 1/2 hour if that! So easy!!

Next on the list is lamps, a rug, coffee table and comfy chair for the corner!
