Birch Cove Beach Closed to Swimming

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents that Birch Cove Beach in Dartmouth is closed to swimming until further notice due to unacceptable water quality conditions.

Beach supervisors regularly test the water at all municipal beaches during the summer months. A recent beach survey indicates swimming at Birch Cove Beach would be unsafe, based on Health Canada swimming guidelines.

Water quality can be affected by a number of factors, including weather conditions, water temperatures, and waterfowl. Since testing takes a minimum of 48 hours to get results, this beach will not be reopening this season due to the normal season closure for all beaches on Aug. 31.
