Bluenose Marathon: Macdonald Bridge and many street closures

Releases:

Halifax Bridges:

Halifax Harbour Bridges advises that the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will be closed to all vehicle traffic on Sunday, May 18, from 7:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

This temporary closure is required to accommodate runners participating in the Blue Nose Marathon, as the bridge is part of the official race route.

Pedestrians and cyclists will not be affected and may continue to use the bridge during this time.

Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time. We appreciate your cooperation and support for this community event.

HRM:

The Halifax Regional Municipality is advising residents to expect street closures, parking impacts and transit disruptions on Saturday, May 17 and Sunday, May 18 as a result of the Blue Nose Marathon.

A full list of street closures can be found on the Blue Nose Marathon website. Halifax Regional Police will allow traffic to pass through select areas when participants are not on the street.

Parking bans will also be in effect in several areas, with a full list available online.

To help reduce traffic and support marathon participants, Halifax Transit is pleased to offer free conventional bus and ferry service for those involved. Volunteers with credentials and participants with their race bib can ride free on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A number of bus routes will be detoured during the races. For details, please visit our website or contact 311.

Every year, the Blue Nose Marathon brings out thousands of participants and spectators. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, allow for extra travel time and to keep an eye out for people on the streets.
