Bob Bauer, composer, guitarist and producer, does, among other things, community work as conductor of the Bedford Leisure Club Orchestra and Choir:
For those of you in the Halifax area I thought you might like to know that you will have several opportunities to hear some of my music in concert over the next three weeks. I would really appreciate the moral support if you can make it to any/or all of these events. It will help us pay the bills too
It all starts this Sunday Feb 19th:
My surround audio piece…”Returning to his old home” will be presented at the next Oscillations Festival of Electroacoustic Music.
This work is a setting of a poem by Japanese poet Otomo no Tabito…. the story of an old man who returns to his home after many years only to find it in ruins.
The poem is very moving and I have tried my best to do it justice.
The Oscillations Festival will be taking place at Gallery 2053 ( 2053 Gottingen St. Halifax) Sunday Feb 19th – 8:00 pm $20/$15
The very next week on Friday February 24th:
Musikon concerts will be premiering a new electroacoustic piece of mine titled….. “The Maidens’ Travels”.
Musikon is a new series devoted to fixed form/through composed music by Canadian composers. This performance will be at Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery and my new piece is influenced by the gallery’s show “Six Low-Cast Maidens in Search of a Porch”…a sculptural installation by Jacqueline Riemer.
Again that’s Musikon – Friday Feb 23rd – 8:00pm at Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery $20/$10
And on Sunday March 4th:
Vocalypse Productions will be premiering “Rock and Variations”…. a new piece for soprano Janice Jackson, electric guitarist Geordie Haley, plus electronics by yours truly.
This will be a wild performance with lots of surprises and humour. You’ll hear the sounds on an avalanche, Jimi Hendrix, Rock a Bye Baby and much more!
The text by the way is by Lesley Choyce.
Vocalypse at the Dalhousie University Art Gallery – Sunday Mar 4th – 8:00 pm….naturally
Hope to see some of you there.
