Deceased person found in Dartmouth identified as missing man

The deceased person found in Dartmouth earlier this month has been identified as a man reported missing to Halifax Regional Police in late October.

Fifty-nine-year-old Gerald Gallant was last seen leaving the Dartmouth General Hospital on October 28, 2015 at approximately 10 p.m.

On January 9 at approximately 3:35 p.m., Halifax Regional Police responded to a report that a citizen had found a deceased person in a wooded area of the 200 block of Pleasant Street in Dartmouth. Members of the Forensic Identification Section and Integrated Criminal Investigation Division attended, along with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office. An autopsy was conducted and confirmed the identity of the deceased as Gerald Gallant. Foul play is not suspected.

Our thoughts are with Gerald’s family and friends at this difficult time. Investigators extend their thanks to the media and the public for their assistance with this matter.
