Body of missing child found

This morning, the Nova Scotia RCMP, with assistance from our partners, recovered the body of a child in the primary search area in Brooklyn.

Working with the Nova Scotia Medical Examiner’s Office, the RCMP can also confirm that the remains recovered yesterday afternoon in Kings County are also those of a child.

The remains of both children are believed to be of the children who were unaccounted for following extreme flood conditions in West Hants.

On July 22, a man, two children, and a youth were reported missing after the vehicles they were travelling in were caught in flood waters in the Brooklyn area.

The body of the 52-year-old man was recovered yesterday morning in Brooklyn.

The youth has not yet been located; the multi-agency, intensive search continues in the primary search area in Brooklyn where efforts to lower the water level are ongoing. Civilian contractors and partners are assisting.

Search and rescue teams from West Hants, East Hants, Digby, Annapolis and Valley, multiple fire departments, along with the Department of Natural Resources and Renewables, have all been instrumental in the search thus far.

RCMP resources include Police Dog Services, Air Services, and General Duty Policing.

The investigation is ongoing.

Our thoughts remain with the families at this difficult time.
