Bomb Scare On Metro Transit Bus

At approximately 5:10 pm Halifax Regional Police received an untraceable 911 call stating that there was a bomb on a Metro Transit Bus. The caller hung up and no further details were given.

Metro Transit were notified of the call and a message was sent out to all of their buses with respect to this information. One of the bus drivers who was travelling from Dartmouth to Halifax reported that a passenger had turned over an abandoned kit bag to him around the same time as the 911 call. The bus stopped immediately on Barrington St between Morris St and South St and the passengers were evacuated. HRP patrol officers responded and evacuated the immediate area of the bus. Members of the HRP Bomb Squad attended the scene and were able to successfully deal with the bag. There was nothing suspicious located inside. There area is now open to the public. The incident remains under investigation.
