Book Buzz – Page 99 Test, Fictitious History and Alexander McCall Smith

There is a bit of buzz on the net right now about a cheeky way to quickly evaluate a book. The proponents of Page 99 Test feel that a book’s essence can be determined by reading page 99.

Open the book to page ninety-nine and read, and the quality of the whole will be revealed to you.” –Ford Madox Ford

Why not give it a try for yourself.

Alexander McCall Smith and the Telegraph.co.uk have teamed up to deliver a neat online novel. Corduroy Mansions is to be released in weekly installments, from Sept 13th to Dec 18th. The site also provides an audio book version read by Andrew Sachs. Also included is an online discussion, additional background information and an opportunity to shape the story by providing feedback to the author! This site is a great example of the added value that the Internet can bring to the reading experience.
