Borough Market; A Foodies Dream Come True

borough-market

It seems the big thing to do on the weekend in London is hit up the market. Whether it be Camden Market, Spitalfields, Brick Lane or Borough Market, they’re all very busy and there’s loads to see and do. The cool thing is that none of the markets are laid out the same, they all vary in what they’re selling and the atmosphere is different at each one as well.

Borough Market is London’s most renowned food market; a source of exceptional British and international produce.

The way the market is laid out was pretty cool too. Some parts were outdoors, some were indoors, some just had a glass roof over the vendors and one part is under the train.

The vendors range from produce, to meat, to cheese (the most cheese I’ve ever seen or smelled in one place in my life), to juice bars, to flax bars (probably the best thing since sliced bread), coffee… The list goes on and on. Like I said, this place is a foodies dream come true! Unfortunately we didn’t know this until after we got there and we weren’t prepared to buy much.

We did manage to buy a few things though and we were very happy with our purchases. We bought some Jalapeno and Ginger dipping sauce which so far goes great on chicken.

These guys were selling the most amazing flax bar thingines… They were like oat cakes but 43513576 times better and maybe twice as healthy (oat cakes aren’t that healthy). We bought 5 of them… they’re gone already. They’re all wheat-free and some are gluten free and they have some vegan ones too. I can’t even describe how amazing they were!! I chatted with them for a bit and they were very nice. They have all kinds of products and recipes on their web site www.flaxfarm.co.uk.

Warm… Apple… Cider… (at 11am)

We decided to indulge with some chocolate fudge brownies and carrot cake. Unfortunately, they look better than they tasted.

All in all this place was fantastic. We’re going to go back next weekend and this time we’ll be prepared with backpacks and ready to buy some fresh produce and meat. I’m planning on making my world famous chili and I want to try and get all of my ingredients here. They also have a grill that was serving ostrich and buffalo burgers which I want to try.

If you’re ever in London and love food and don’t mind large crowds at markets, this is the place for you!
