A Local Duo’s New Venture

Both born and raised in Halifax co-owners Tristan and Tony met through the local entertainment and events industry as young entrepreneurs with similar interests. Tristan, a DJ and event coordinator, and Tony, a former breakdancer with an entertainment company, first went into business together as co-owners of Golden Service Bar, a mobile bar they established in 2016. In March 2024, they saw a gap in the downtown food scene and decided to open Buddy’s Deli, a local sub shop specializing in big, flavorful sandwiches.

What Makes Buddy’s Deli Unique

Located at 5217 Blowers Street, (Open Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m) their lineup includes six 12-inch subs on fresh-baked bread from local bakers, piled with local meats, cheese, and veggies. The founders say the menu is one of a kind. They renovated the shop themselves and leaned into a relaxed, welcoming vibe inspired by how often Maritimers say “buddy.”

Fresh, Local Ingredients

Quality is key at Buddy’s Deli. After months of searching, Tristan and Tony found the perfect local bakery and meat suppliers. “Our meats are from trusted local sources, and our bread is baked fresh daily,” they said.

Fan Favorites

Two sandwiches, “My Italian Buddy” and “Clubhouse,” have become customer favorites thanks to their rich flavors and generous portions. “People love the fresh ingredients and the care we put into each sub,” they explained. Keep an eye on their Instagram for monthly specials.

Overcoming Challenges

Opening wasn’t without its challenges. Managing the high volume of orders was tough initially. “Every sub takes time and precision,” they said. The team improved their workflow and focused on quality training to keep up with demand.
